This is a lecture course focusing on some basic notions and phenomena of the language and linguistic peculiarities of English. In the course we shall rest on such language aspects as: English as a global language, its place in the family of Germanic languages, structure of English words, ways of enriching vocabulary, word meaning, English outside Britain, phonemes, syllables, etc.
